If you’re asked to be a bridesmaid (or a groomsman) you’re supposed to jump for joy, give your thanks and accept the offer without a second of hesitation.

Of course there are exceptions, like financial problems, health issues and when you’re asked by someone you’ve never even met before (true story).

In those cases, it makes sense why you’d turn down the opportunity to be in the wedding party (and all the responsibility that comes with it).

The AskReddit stories that follow don’t all fall into the above ‘acceptable’ reason column, but most still make a great deal of sense once you read them.
