It wasn’t exactly business as usual in the season premiere of “Lethal Weapon.”
In May the series made headlines, not for it’s ratings or rave reviews, but for the alleged abusive and hostile behavior of star Clayne Crawford, who played loose-cannon cop Martin Riggs, based on Mel Gibson’s character from the film franchise. Crawford was fired from the TV show, in which he co-starred with Damon Wayans, who plays Roger Murtaugh (based on the Danny Glover role), and Fox scrambled to recast him. The network chose “American Pie” alum Seann William Scott to replace Crawford, and he made his big debut in the Season 3 premiere Tuesday night.
Fans went into the episode with two major questions on their minds: What happened to Riggs, and is the new guy any good?
The episode quickly answered both, kicking off not with Riggs, who was shot in the Season 2 finale, but with Wesley Cole (Scott), a CIA operative in Syria who is trying to pull off a covert operation with the help of a 9-year-old informant. Cole tries to protect his young companion, but the boy is killed…
