Fear the Werewolf: Russian Serial Killer Admits to Dozens More Murders

Mikhail Popkov is already serving a life sentence in a Russian prison, but the whole story of his depravity is only now beginning to surface. Before he was locked up, Popkov terrorized the city of Angarsk in Siberia, earning the nickname “The Werewolf” because of the brutality of his crimes.

The police officer-turned-serial killer went on a horrific 18-year killing spree from 1992 to 2010, and from behind bars he recently admitted to having committed way more murders than were previously known – dozens of them.

Popkov was arrested in 2012 and has been in prison since then. He was originally charged with 22 murders, for which he received a life sentence. The police officer used his position of authority to lure people, usually intoxicated women and often late at night, into his patrol car with the offer of a safe ride home. Popkov would then attack, rape, and murder the women with screwdrivers, axes, and knives, and dump the naked corpses of his victims in the woods. Popkov told authorities during his original trial that he started his killing spree because he suspected his wife was cheating…
