An 11-year-old DeKalb County, Alabama, girl was found dead Saturday after having been the subject of an intense search beginning on Friday.
Amberly Alexis Barnett was last seen in the Mount Vernon Community around 6 p.m. CST Friday, according to statements from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff Nick Welden released a statement Saturday announcing the discovery of the little girl’s body but the location and the manner and cause of her death were not disclosed.“”At approximately 6:30 a.m. today (March 2) the deceased body of 11-year-old Amberly Barnett was located,” Welden said in the statement.
“Due to the current investigation, we are limited on the information we are able to release,” he said. “I can tell you we are diligently pursuing different avenues and Lord willing we will have answers in the upcoming days.”
The little girl’s mother, Jonie Barnett, had posted on her Facebook page, prior to the discovery of the body, that there were suspicious circumstances in her daughter’s disappearance from the Barnett’s sister’s home near the DeKalb-Cherokee county line.
