Ventriloquist Darci Lynne Farmer continued to be one of the “America’s Got Talent” frontrunners during the season 12 semifinals on Tuesday. Watch the video below!
As Gossip Cop has reported, Mel B gave Farmer the first Golden Buzzer of 2017 on the season premiere back in May.
The 12-year-old happily surprised the judges by having her bunny puppet Petunia sing. The admittedly shy girl, who said ventriloquism has helped her come out of her shell, burst into tears when she received a standing ovation. The Golden Buzzer advantage sent Farmer directly to the live shows, skipping the Judge Cuts round.Farmer received another standing ovation during the “AGT” quarterfinals last month. For that performance, she was joined by a mouse puppet named Oscar, who happened to have a rather big crush on Mel B. With the tween’s help, Oscar sang “Who’s Lovin’ You” in honor of the judge. “Darci, you’re just out of this world,” the Spice Girls singer said afterward. And Simon Cowell told the contestant, “You young lady, and Oscar, get ready for the big time, ’cause it’s coming your way.”
Now for the penultimate phase of the NBC talent competition, Farmer had to give another live performance at the Dolby Theater. She was up against 10 other acts for the first of the two semifinal episodes. And if she survived the cut, she’d score a spot in the upcoming finale. Before the performance, the aspiring star said in her pre-taped opening, “To me my puppets are alive.” For tonight, she was introducing a new pal named Edna, an old lady who loves Cowell. “I’m hoping me and my puppets can make it to the finals, so I’m crossing my fingers that everything goes to plan,” she said.
Upon taking the stage, Farmer pulled her puppet out of a trunk, which prompted Edna to crack, “I have not been this uncomfortable since I was stuck in the elevator with the Singing Trump.” She then said Cowell is a “hit with the ladies in their 80s,” but her owner feared a heart attack. Said Edna, “Don’t worry, Darci. Simon knows mouth-to-mouth.” The senior citizen puppet then sang “Natural Woman” in honor of the music mogul, and even demanded Farmer bring her right next to him. Following a standing ovation, host Tyra Banks said, “Simon, you are bright red. How’s that serenade making you feel?”
