Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam has told his staff that he doesn’t intend to resign his office, his communications director, Ofirah Yheskel, told NPR member station WCVE Friday.
The declaration comes roughly a week after a racist yearbook photograph sent Virginia’s Capitol into disarray, and as most state lawmakers
Next in line for the governorship is Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax, who is now facing two sexual assault allegations dating back to 2004. And behind him is Attorney General Mark Herring, who admitted to using blackface in a decades-old incident, as well.
All three embattled politicians are Democrats;the man who would assume the governorship, if they all step down, is GOP House Speaker Kirk Cox.
