If you’re not from Australia, you might be surprised to learn that kangaroos, though the symbol of the country, are mostly seen as annoying, aggressive pests by locals. They damage crops and threaten agricultural progress in addition to accounting for 80% of vehicle-animal collisions, and with large male kangaroos reaching heights of 6.5 feet and weighing up to 200 pounds, they’re not exactly simple to subdue.
Despite their frequent interactions with humans (and cars) they’re still plentiful (down under) – their numbers are estimated at around 50 million.
