TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) — The New York Giants responded Sunday to reports that the Washburn cornerback they selected in the sixth round the night before was injured in a shooting that claimed the life his teammate, Dwane Simmons.
The Giants say they spoke with Corey Ballentine on Sunday.
Team officals also expressed their condolences to Simmons’ family, friends, and teammates.“We are aware of the tragic situation and continue to gather information. We have spoken to Corey, and he is recovering in the hospital. Our thoughts are with Dwane Simmons’ family, friends and teammates and the rest of the Washburn community.”
