We close the books on the final January NAIAS.
The final January edition of the North American International Auto Show has wrapped in Detroit, and thankfully what is certain to be our last trip to the Cobo Center in the biting cold of winter was worthwhile thanks to some big-name introductions.
Whether you’re a fan of horsepower, hauling or hybrid tech, this year’s NAIAS had something for you. Let’s dig in.
The new GT500 was one of two big-name performance vehicles revealed in Detroit this week, and certainly the more powerful of the two. Ford promises the new snake will deliver more than 700 horsepower from its 5.2L supercharged V8, and for the first time it will come standard with a seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission.
2020 Toyota Supra
If the GT500 is the show’s performance monster, the 2020 Toyota Supra is the hype monster. The long-awaited return of Japan’s tuner icon has finally come. The underlying architecture and powertrain are shared with the forthcoming BMW Z4, meaning the Supra is available (appropriately) with a turbocharged inline-six producing 335 horsepower.
Technically, the new Ford Explorer debuted at a more intimate event…
