WWE Evolution Results: News And Notes After Ronda Rousey Retains Against Nikki Bella

Author: Alfred Konuwa / Source: Forbes

WWE Evolution was a near-seamless blend of past and present as WWE showcased a mix of legends, Hall of Famers and top stars of the past in addition to the vastly improved women’s division of today.

Ronda Rousey retained the Raw Women’s Championship in the main event of WWE Evolution.

Ronda Rousey shined, as she always does in big spots, ousting Nikki Bella in a very entertaining match as the Nassau Coliseum crowd remained fully engaged throughout the match and the show.

In addition to being an unheralded pay-per-view that had to share this week’s landscape with Crown Jewel—not only as a pay-per-view but also as an international controversy—Evolution will face some tough sledding up against NFL Sunday Night Football and Game 5 of the Major League Baseball World Series.

Opening Segment featuring Nita Strauss and Lzzy Hale (77,760 YouTube views)

WWE needs to have Nita Strauss on retainer.

There is a strong precedent of announcers becoming surprise entrants in Battle Royals, and hopefully, Beth Phoenix can continue this tradition.

Michael Cole claimed Evolution was taking place before a sold-out crowd but the decided dimply lit arena makes me skeptical of this statement.

Trish Stratus and Lita def. Alicia Fox and Mickie James w/Alexa Bliss (167,326 views)

Lita made the strange choice of replacing her signature thong with a contraption that appeared to be a girdle of sorts but she somehow still pulled it off.

Alicia Fox donned the first nail-on-the-head Wonderwoman outfit, and something tells me it won’t be the last reference to Wonderwoman on a show of this magnitude.

Though they are well intended, terms/chants like “you’ve still got it” and “she has not missed a step,” only unnecessarily remind me that Trish and Lita are supposed to be past their prime.

Alicia Fox missed her spot leading to an awkward nearfall, and what should have been the finish, but the finish they had planned was so much better.

There’s still money in Trish Stratus vs. Mickie James, and once Stratus fully shakes off the ring rust, it could be much more than just a legend’s match.

Nia Jax wins Women’s Battle Royal (125,145 views)

Many of these Superstars seemed far more excited to be part of this Battle Royal than they were when it was announced on Twitter.

R-Truth was in attendance, so don’t rule out…
