On Friday the unseeded Murray was asked whether after 18 months of injury trouble and gruelling recovery from hip surgery whether this could be his last tournament, he said: “Yeah, I think there’s a chance of that for sure. Because I am not sure I am going to be able to play through the pain for the next four or five months.”

His ambition remains to bow out at Wimbledon later this year, but all depends…
