1— Samsung’s new Galaxy Tab S4 tries to beat the iPad at productivity.

Samsung “surprised” the tech community this week when it released an update to its Galaxy Tab S4.

And, according to one tech blogger, “this time around Samsung isn’t just taking aim at the iPad Pro, it’s also looking to challenge the Surface Laptop.” (Source: PC World)

This device is no longer a plaything. Instead it’s being re-positioned as a business tool that enables users to switch between the Android interface and Samsung’s PC-like DeX mode. “The Galaxy Tab S4 is an interesting pivot to productivity,” PC World reports. “It’s not that you couldn’t get serious work done on the Galaxy Tab S3, but Samsung is going all-in on DeX with the S4, positioning it as a true PC or Chromebook replacement. Anyone looking for a tablet for work definitely has a third option to consider.”

2 — WhatsApp finally earns money by charging businesses for slow replies.

This week, WhatsApp launched its first revenue-generating enterprise product and the only way it currently makes money directly from its app. The WhatsApp Business API will let businesses respond to messages from users for free for up to 24 hours but will charge them a fixed rate by country per message sent after that. With the API, businesses will still only be able to message people who contacted them first, but it will help them programmatically send shipping confirmations, appointment reminders, or event tickets.
