Apple’s research and development team have been hard at work on a replacement hinge for the MacBook family of laptops, as revealed by the latest published patent, reports Jack Purcher at Patently Apple:
Apple filed new information regarding this invention back in 2017 and this week the European Patent Office published Apple’s latest patent claim additions.
The newly published patent claims now narrowly focuses the device design to being a new MacBook clamshell construction with a built-in flexible hinge design…
As with most advances from any manufacture, the title needs a bit of punching up from the marketing department. In this case the connection between the two main parts of the laptop is labelled the ‘Living Hinge’… nope I’ve got nothing on that either.
The hinge mechanism itself reads as if it is the product of a single milled block of aluminium. According to the patent:
