Linkin Park Issues Open Letter To Chester Bennington, Band’s Future Unclear

Following singer Chester Bennington’s July 20 death, the remaining members of Linkin Park released an heartbreaking open letter to Bennington Monday morning that leaves the band’s future a question mark, but reaffirms their “inextinguishable” love for “making and performing music.

Bennington’s death by suicide came one week before the band was to start the U.S. leg of its One More Light world tour on July 27 in Boston. That show was to be followed by two stadium dates with Blink-182 at Citi Field in Queens, N.Y. on July 28 and Hersheypark Stadium in Hershey, Pa., July 30. Among the upcoming dates were six West Coast shows in October with rapper Snoop Dogg as special guest. The tour has been cancelled.

As often happens following an artist’s death, consumption of Linkin Park’s music immediately soared. On the Billboard 200 albums chart for sales through July 20, the band’s current set, One More Light, reentered the Billboard 200 at No. 17 earning equivalent album units of 23,000 (The title debuted at No. 1 last month).
