Ariana Grande’s Pete Davidson romance: ‘Too much too soon’ after Mac Miller breakup, death

Anyone following Ariana Grande’s past year of terror, tumult and heartbreak would be right to think that she and the seemingly affable Pete Davidson had too quickly plunged into a romance and engagement.

Grande, 25, took up with the 24-year-old “Saturday Night Live” comedian as she was still dealing with several major life aftershocks. That’s why news of their breakup over the weekend didn’t surprise people close to either of them.

“It was way too much too soon,” a source close to Grande told People. “It’s not shocking to anyone.”

In May 2017, 22 people were killed in a terrorist attack following Grande’s concert in Manchester England. She said the attack left her suffering from overwhelming anxiety, according to People. Then in April 2018, she reportedly broke up with Mac Miller, her troubled rapper boyfriend of two years.

Just one month later, news broke that the “No Tears Left to Cry” singer and Davidson were dating. Over the summer, Grande and Davidson carried on their romance in a pretty gushing, over-the-top way, including the comedian presenting her with a $100,000 pear-shaped diamond engagement ring in June. But three months later, Miller was dead of a suspected drug overdose.

E! News was among the publications that pointed out the many signs that Grande and Davidson’s engagement wasn’t headed for smoothy sailing.

Throughout her romance with Davidson, Grande faced an onslaught of criticism from Miller’s fans who accused her of abandoning the 26-year-old rapper in his time of need. At one point, Grande defended herself by addressing his struggles with drug addiction and the difficulties of staying in a “toxic” relationship.

Grande also was eager to show her fierce devotion to her new fiance Davidson. During an appearance on “The Tonight Show” in August, she told host Jimmy Fallon about how she had actually developed a crush on Davidson two years earlier, when she hosted and performed as a musical guest on “Saturday Night Live.”

But it’s worth asking: Wasn’t Grande dating Miller when she developed this so-called crush on Davidson?
