The honeymoon is definitely over for Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, at least as far as her American relatives are concerned.
Meghan’s 73-year-old father Thomas Markle has vowed he won’t stop complaining to the media about her until she and her husband agree to take his phone calls and acknowledge he exists. Meanwhile, older half-sister Samantha Markle ripped into the new Duchess of Sussex Tuesday night on Twitter, telling her, “If our father dies I’m holding you responsible, Meg!”
But Meghan’s side is also fighting back, but in an unofficial, backchannel way. On Wednesday, an unnamed “source close to the Duchess of Sussex” told the Daily Mail that the retired “General Hospital” lighting designer was never ailing from a heart condition. Rather, he faked an emergency surgery to avoid going to the May 19 royal wedding and as a way to garner sympathy after he was caught staging tabloid photos with a paparazzo.
“The whole story about Meghan’s father undergoing heart surgery was made up,” the source said. “He had to come up with a good enough reason not to attend her wedding and avoid any further embarrassment after those staged photos went public.
”Yes, things are getting very nasty between the Los Angles.-born former TV actress and her relatives, with the animosity escalating since Meghan and Harry’s globally televised nuptials at Windsor Castle.
Certainly, things had been strained for quite some time between Meghan, 36, and her older half-siblings, Samantha Markle and Thomas Markle Jr. who are in their 50s and who lead decidedly less glamorous lives in, respectively, Florida and Grants Pass, Oregon.
The siblings, children from Markle Sr.’s first marriage, became increasingly critical of the future royal fashion icon and humanitarian as her wedding date approached. On Twitter, in media interviews or in an open letter, they depicted Meghan as a calculating social climber who turned her back on their aging father as her TV career took off and after she began dating Harry in 2016.
Things also were reportedly strained between Meghan and her father, who divorced her mother Doria Ragland when she was 6. But daughter and father were said to be patching things up. She and Harry called him in late November before they announced their engagement.
