The longest night of 2018 will be illuminated by a full moon and a meteor shower.
Friday (Dec. 21) is the winter solstice, the shortest day of the year in the northern hemisphere, when the earth tilts away from the sun marking the start of winter.
In the summer we are tilted towards the sun.This year is the first time a full moon will coincide with the solstice since 2010. The next time will be in 2094.
