The ballroom on “Dancing With the Stars” was filled with ghosts, zombies, skeletons and many more spooky incarnations because Week 6 of Season 27 was “Halloween Night”! However, some of the scariest parts of the two hours might have been the many political ads for the upcoming elections injected into the breaks.
In costume, the entire cast of celebs and pros filled the dance floor for the opening number, and host Tom Bergeron and co-host Erin Andrews even added a few dance steps to the performance. Later in the show, there were performances by the Jabbawockeez dance group. and a spooky number by Stephen “tWitch” Boss’ group with former DWTS pro Allison Holker. And it was fun when videos showed how certain pro dancers delighted in scaring their partners and other cast members with surprises that came out of closets, cabinets and even trees.
As opposed to last week when there was no elimination, Tom announced that two couples — Alexis Ren and Alan Bersten, and Mary Lou Retton and Sasha Farber — were in jeopardy. After standing under the red lights of doom and listening to the grim music, Mary Lou and Sasha were eliminated. As they were coming over to talk to Tom and Erin, Emma Slater, Sasha’s fiancée, rushed over to give him a hug.
The audience gave the pair a standing ovation that was directed mainly at Mary Lou and Erin pointed to the gesture and said, “Enjoy this!”
With a sad look, Tom said to Mary Lou, “This has been such a great treat for us to have you here, and it seems it has been an important milestone for you.
” During their rehearsal package, Mary Lou told Sasha about her divorce in February from her husband of 27 years. She also credited DWTS and Sasha with enabling her to rediscover her self-confidence and to show her vulnerability.“It really has,” Mary Lou responded. “This has been the time of my life. I hadn’t challenged myself in decades and I challenged myself. And I’m off to a fresh, new start.”
“And he’ll (pointing to Sasha) still jump out of trees at you,” laughed Tom.
“Thank you,” said Mary Lou, “thank you everyone.” And Erin added, “Thanks for being a strong woman.”
And “Grocery Store Joe” Amabile and Bobby Bones are still on the show.
My Top Three Dances
There is no way I can ignore the two routines that rocked the house and scored perfect 30s, and they were terrific. One was at the start and the other was at the finish.
