There’s no sleeping in stardom.
Newly minted American Idol winner Maddie Poppe learned that lesson in the hours after her win Monday night when she and her boyfriend, Idol runner-up Caleb Lee Hutchinson, were spirited away to New York overnight.
Wearing a bright yellow dress and floral Doc Martins, Maddie told the Good Morning America hosts that winning Idol hasn’t really sunk in yet.
The Idol producers “kind of adjust you to it,” Maddie said of her new life. “You know, ever since Hollywood Week your sleep schedule changes, definitely, and I haven’t seen my family for a really long time, which is sad, but they know that this is my dream, so this is what they want for me.”
Trent and Tonya Poppe were in the audience for their daughter’s big win, as were Maddie’s two sisters: Hannah, 22, and Emma, 16. The Poppes will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary Wednesday, which Maddie had hoped to throw a party for, but got a “little busy.” (I think they’ll understand.)
