‘Creed II’ looks to be another big holiday winner with as much as $59 million, while ‘Robin Hood’ misses the bullseye.
Ralph Breaks the Internet and Creed II are delivering a one-two punch as the Thanksgiving box office gets underway.
Walt Disney Animation’s sequel Ralph Breaks the Internet could approach $85 million to $90 million for the Wednesday-Sunday corridor, including $3.8 million in Tuesday previews, according to early Wednesday returns. In terms of its Tuesday evening preview gross, it beat fellow Disney animated Thanksgiving offerings Coco ($2.3 million) and Moana ($2.6 million).
To date, the Thanksgiving record-holder is Disney Animation’s Frozen, which grossed $93.6 million for the five days in 2013, not adjusted for inflation. Last year, Disney Animation’s Moana earned $82.1 million for the five days.
The critically acclaimed follow-up to the 2012 animated pic Wreck-It Ralph sees John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman returning to lead the voice cast, while newcomers include Gal Gadot and Taraji P. Henson.
