The Apple Watch design has gone largely unchanged since its launch in 2015. I mean, sure, it’s varied in thickness by fractions of an inch, sporting a red dot on the digital crown in some of the latest models, and the materials in the deluxe Edition models has changed, but overall, it’s almost identical.

Updated design incoming?
But two months ago, star analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggested that a new design is on its way with a new, bigger screen. Bigger by around 15%, so quite a bit, then.
At the time of the report I said I was sceptical that it was true if it meant a bigger Watch. But the latest suggestion, from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, is that Apple is working on:
a pair of new Apple Watches that keep the overall size of the current models, but include slightly larger, edge-to-edge screens, according to a person familiar with the product’s development. These changes will be the most notable external enhancements since the Watch launched about three years ago.
The skilful design of the Apple Watch is such that, mostly, an edge-to edge screen hasn’t been necessary. Many of the Watch faces have black edges so the screen and frame blur and anyway, the screen is big enough.
But an even bigger display would be sensational, adding extra real estate for easier-to-read messages, larger photographs, buttons your finger just can’t miss.
